Basil Alwan joined Tarana Wireless as the CEO in early 2021 to build out Tarana's commercial front end, raise a $170 million funding round at a $1 billion valuation, and guide the company through unprecedented growth in the ngFWA market. Formerly the President of IP/Optical Networks at Nokia, Basil joined Nokia (previously Alcatel-Lucent) through the acquisition of privately held TiMetra Networks where he was founder, President and CEO. Basil is a recognized industry leader and enjoys working with entrepreneurs and sharing his views on the future of networking markets and technology. He started his career with Advanced Micro Devices after graduating with his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.

Dirk Gates
SVP of Customer Experience
Dirk Gates brings a breadth and depth of networking and wireless experience to Tarana. He was a founder, CEO, and Chairman of Xircom, Inc., the creator of the mobile networking market and a pioneer in wireless networking with the creation of the first mobile WLAN product line, NetWave. Dirk led Xircom through its IPO and ultimately to a $2B valuation, and an eventual acquisition by Intel. Dirk’s second start-up, Xirrus, Inc., was the leader in high-performance enterprise Wi-Fi, offering cloud managed solutions that delivered 2x the range, 4x the coverage, and 8x the bandwidth, while using 75% fewer devices. As CEO and then Executive Chairman, he grew Xirrus to $100M/year run rate, after which it was acquired by Riverbed Technologies. He has been issued 32 patents in networking and wireless technologies and was a recipient of Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Los Angeles Region. Dirk graduated Summa Cum Laude from both Pepperdine University, with a Master of Business Administration, as well as from California State University, Northridge with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

Andrew leads our operations team, including all aspects of manufacturing and distribution. He brings more than 20 years of executive experience in supply chain, manufacturing, test, and delivery logistics management. Prior to Tarana, he was COO of PlantSense, responsible for all day-to-day operations and global supply chain and distribution activities. He has served in executive and senior operations roles for other communications technology companies including BRN Phoenix, Anthology Solutions, Nokia, Diamond Lane Communications, Harris Digital Telephone Systems, and Stanford Telecom. Andrew has a BS in Industrial Engineering from Cal Poly.

Yongmin leads the platform engineering teams at Tarana. He is responsible for transforming our innovative technology into high performance, low cost, and reliable product designs. He has worked in the field of wireless communications for about 30 years and is an expert in wireless systems, network equipment, and signal processing technology. Previously, Yongmin served as Senior Director of Engineering at Exalt Communications, leading microwave communication systems development, advanced signal processing, and system on chip designs. He also held director and engineering manager positions at Proxim/Western Multiplex Corp. Yongmin has BS and MS degrees from Jiaotong University in Xian, China, and a Ph.D. from the University of Houston, all in electrical engineering.

Sri joins us at Tarana after 20+ years at Nokia, where he most recently ran the $5B IP/Optics part of the business. His understanding of scaling networks and engaging large service providers, as well as background from engineering to support is extremely valuable. Prior to Nokia, Sri was the founder, VP of Software and Test at TiMetra, a start-up focused on service routers for IP/MPLS networks, which was acquired by Alcatel in 2Q 2003. He is a recognized industry leader and has founded and advised many startups in the valley focused on next-generation broadband solutions. Prior to Timetra, Sri led several engineering teams on many successful products at Synoptics Networks. Sri was also the VP of Engineering for the switching division at Bay Networks, leading the team that developed one of the industry’s early scalable layer 3 switch routers. Sri holds an MBA with an emphasis in Finance from Santa Clara University, an MS in Computer Science from Oregon State University, and a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University.

Mike is our VP of Sales. He was previously Senior Vice President of Sales at Nokia, where he led customer engagements across a wide range of verticals, including major and regional telcos, cable operators, Internet/web companies, cloud service providers, federal/state/local governments, and data center customers globally. He has a proven track record of accelerating growth and more than 20 years of experience in communications technology, from startup to mature stages. He holds an MBA from George Mason University in Virginia and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech.

Sud leads the entire Tarana product development organization. A seasoned engineering leader, he led the Amazon Alexa Connected Devices organization, which provided massively scalable and high performance cloud services for all Alexa devices. At AWS, he was also responsible for the AWS networking platform products that power the Amazon and AWS networks. He was the first employee at Infinera and SVP Software — and led teams in the USA, India, and China. During his 15 years at Infinera, he also took the leadership to deliver complex hardware, software, and optics projects. Prior to this, Sud was also a co-founder of a successful start-up, Inverse Network Technology. Sud has a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, an MS in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and an MBA from UC, Berkeley.

Carl serves as the VP of Government Affairs & Policy. After three decades in CEO and senior officer roles, including 24 years as CEO of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, Carl came to Tarana after leading global government affairs for Bloom Energy. Carl also serves as Vice Chair of the CA Transportation Commission, which annually programs and allocates nearly $10 billion in transportation improvements throughout the state. Through his past leadership roles, Carl has led and co-led 19 statewide, regional, and countywide ballot initiatives, winning 18 out of 19 campaigns. Carl graduated from San Jose State University, where he is a Distinguished Alumnus. Outside of work, Carl is a runner, cyclist, and triathlete, having completed 19 marathons and three IRONMANs. Carl and his wife, Leslee, have three children.

Sergiu’s unique vision has been guiding the company since day one, setting and executing on product, technology, and major account strategies. His prior experience includes network efficiency research at the International Computer Science Institute, wireless research at Intel Labs, and design and deployment of WiLDNet, a revolutionary low-cost, high‑performance wireless network, as part of UC Berkeley’s TIER Group. Sergiu has published more than 25 technical papers in wireless.

Rabin is Tarana’s Chief Software Architect and leads the system integration team. He is applying more than 10 years of wireless network research and product development experience from Intel Research Labs and UC Berkeley, focused on 802.11-based low-cost, long distance wireless technologies, successfully validated through real-world deployments. Rabin has published more than 10 technical papers related to wireless networks and speech recognition.

Harry leads the RF development team at Tarana Wireless, including RF board, RFIC, and antenna developments. He has held similar roles at previous companies including Exalt Communications, BRN Phoneix, BeamReach Networks, and Radix Technologies. He has BSEE and MSEE degrees from the University of California at Davis, and a Certificate in Electronic Circuits from Stanford University.

Dale Branlund is one of Tarana’s co-founders and is the Chief Architect of Tarana’s 2nd and 3rd generation wireless broadband systems. Dale has more than 40 years of deep experience in wireless system innovation, development, executive management, and startup growth in advanced radio systems. Prior to Tarana, he co-founded and held senior technical executive roles in BRN Phoenix (broadband wireless access systems based on adaptive array processing technology), BeamReach Networks, and Radix Technologies (defense contractor specializing in signal reconnaissance and digital signal processing). Dale was co-inventor of the first wireless system to use OFDMA and adaptive beamforming technology first used in ATT Project Angel. These technologies now form the basis of WiMax and LTE. With the introduction of Tarana’s G1 fixed BWA system representing 25 years of continuous innovation embodied in 4 generations of wireless base stations and CPE, performance levels eclipsing 3GPP systems is being obtained. Earlier in his career, Dale was Chief Engineer at ArgoSystems, a defense electronics developer acquired by Boeing. Dale has numerous patents both issued and pending for mobile and fixed broadband systems using adaptive array technologies. Dale holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University.

Rakesh leads the definition and realization of the fixed wireless radio product line and Tarana Cloud Suite, collaborating closely with key customer accounts and with engineering throughout the product life cycle. Additionally, he also leads the solutions engineering group responsible for solution architecture, customer pilots, interoperability, and 3rd party integration to strengthen the overall product portfolio.
He brings more than 20 years of experience in network infrastructure covering a wide range of products including fixed wireless, backhaul, core routers, advanced switching, and consumer devices. Prior to joining Tarana, he served as Director of Product Management and Engineering at Trango Systems, where he led the development of their licensed microwave backhaul products. Rakesh has also held engineering leadership and software architect positions at IDT, Pluris, and Jasmine Networks. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics from Bombay University and an MS in Computer Science, with an emphasis in networking, from the University of Southern California.

Kamaraj is VP of Software, Signal processing and leads physical layer software/hardware architecture, development, integration, and validation of Tarana’s wireless systems. He has more than 30 years of experience in productizing multi-antenna based wireless access as well as ADSL and VDSL broadband systems. Kamaraj played a critical role in the evolution of the G1 platform and delivery of 5.8 GHz and CBRS products. Previously he served as a director of DSP Systems at ASSIA and also held director roles in ArrayComm where he developed multi-antenna based PHS, WiMAX and WLL systems. He also held engineering management positions at Centillium and Ikanos Communications. Kamaraj holds a B.E. in Electronics and Communications from PSG College of Technology and M.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Madras.

Terry joined the Tarana team in November 2018 and serves as our Vice President of Finance, CFO, and Secretary. Terry oversees the company’s financial operations. He brings over 25 years of senior financial management experience in semiconductor and emerging growth technology companies with both private equity/venture backed companies as well as NASDAQ listed companies. Prior to joining Tarana, Terry served as CFO of JSI where he lead the company to a successful acquisition by Omni. He has also served as CFO of Magnum Semiconductor (acquired by GigPeak/IDT), Applied Imaging (acquired by Genetix/Leica), and Insync Systems (acquired by US Filter/Vivendi). Terry has provided leadership for growth-focused technology companies and has completed a number of successful funding and M&A transactions. Terry holds a BS in Accounting from Loyola Marymount University, is a Certified Public Accountant, and is a member of the AICPA.

Steven leads our corporate, product, and technical marketing functions. He has more than 25 years of experience in telecommunications innovation, with prior stints at Ruckus (where he led business and channel development that drove 10x revenue gains over 4 years and a $1b IPO), Zhone, ArrayComm, Lucent, and other startups in wireless, machine learning, and robotics. He holds an MBA from Columbia University, a BA in Physics from Carleton College, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science from George Washington University.

As the VP of Systems Engineering and Architecture, Eric ensures Tarana’s dominance in the fixed wireless industry. He has played a key role in designing G1 from the ground up and is the architect behind Tarana’s next generation of products. Eric has also led Tarana’s regulatory compliance strategy and execution to date. Previously, he held roles at Qualcomm in standardization and product prototyping and in the defense industry in satellite and radar systems development. Eric holds a Ph.D from UCLA and a M.S. from USC, both in Electrical Engineering. He has published over 20 IEEE journal and conference articles and has been granted 6 U.S. patents.

Basil Alwan, the Chairman of the Board, was formerly the President of IP/Optical Networks at Nokia with revenues over $5 billion across IP, Transport, and Cloud/Data Center markets. Basil joined Nokia (previously Alcatel-Lucent) through the acquisition of privately held TiMetra Networks where he was founder, President and CEO. TiMetra was a venture-backed Silicon Valley start-up that pioneered multiservice IP routing – technology capable of simultaneously handling massive Internet bandwidth along with latency sensitive applications like voice, video and enterprise traffic. Since the acquisition Basil and the team from TiMetra have consistently grown Nokia’s IP routing business for well over a decade; from entry to the #2 position in service provider routing globally with more than 1,400 customers in 120+ countries around the world. Basil is a recognized industry leader and enjoys working with entrepreneurs and sharing his views on the future of networking markets and technology. He started his career with Advanced Micro Devices after graduating with his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 1984.

Dinakar Singh is the CEO of Axon Capital, a global investment firm with a focus on concentrated, long term investments in both public and private companies across global markets.
Prior to founding Axon Capital in 2005, he was at Goldman Sachs for 14 years, where he was a senior partner and ran the firm's highly profitable global equity proprietary trading business. He became the 2nd youngest partner in Goldman Sachs history in 1998, and in his time there served on the firm's Operating Committee, Partnership Committee, Risk Committee, and Asia Management Committee.
He is a Trustee of the New York Public Library, where he chairs the Investment Committee for the NYPL endowment. He also either currently or previously served on the boards of Columbia University Medical Center, Yale University Endowment Investment Committee, Rockefeller University, and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories.
He is also the founder and Chairman of the Spinal Muscular Atrophy Foundation. The SMA Foundation was established to accelerate development of treatments for children with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, and has been the leading contributor to solution-driven research for SMA. Mr. Singh's daughter suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which was considered fatal and untreatable at the time of her diagnosis in 2001. Since then, the SMA Foundation has played a central role in the development of the three treatments that have been developed for the disease.

Adam Goldstein
Adam Goldstein recently retired from the Global Chair of Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). Mr. Goldstein is a travel and cruise industry expert, having spent the majority of his career in leadership roles with Royal Caribbean Group (RCL). He joined RCL in 1988 and served in numerous positions including President & CEO of Royal Caribbean International from 2007 to 2014 and President and COO of RCL from 2014 to 2018. He retired from his position as Vice Chairman of RCL in March, 2020. Currently, Mr. Goldstein serves as an Investor and Board Member of Tarana Wireless, DLT Global, Rhombus Energy Systems, Sustainable H20 (Advisory Board), and Wafer, LLC. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of INSEAD, and is co-Chair of the Energy Security Leadership Council, a leadership affiliate of Securing America’s Future Energy (SAFE) in Washington DC. Mr. Goldstein graduated with honors from Princeton University. He also has a law degree from Harvard University and an MBA with distinction from INSEAD.
Kanu Gulati
Kanu Gulati is a Partner at Khosla Ventures, and focuses on investments in enterprise applications and infrastructure (that leverage ML, deep learning, NLP, language models, and more), robotics and autonomous systems, and hardware acceleration. She has led Khosla Ventures’ investments in companies including PolyAI, Zordi, Waabi, Lexion, Zendar, NoMagic, Korbit, Analog Inference, and more.
She has over 10 years of operating experience as a research scientist at Intel and Cadence, and was founding/early engineer at startups like Heavy.ai (hardware-accelerated data analytics), Nascentric (fast-circuit simulation tool, acquired by Cadence), and Atrenta (predictive analytics for design, acquired by Synopsys).
Kanu has co-authored 3 books, has authored 35+ peer-reviewed publications with 650+ citations, and holds a US patent. She has PhD & Master's degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Texas A&M University, and a Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering from University of Delhi. Dean Manson
Dean Manson has served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at EchoStar since November 2011, and is responsible for all legal and government affairs of EchoStar and its subsidiaries. Mr. Manson also serves as Executive Vice President – General Counsel and Secretary of Hughes, a wholly owned subsidiary of EchoStar. Mr. Manson joined Hughes in 2000 from the law firm of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP, where he focused on international project finance and corporate transactions, and was appointed General Counsel of Hughes in 2004. Mr. Manson received a B.S. in engineering from Princeton University and a Juris Doctorate from Columbia University School of Law.
Neil Sheridan
Mr. Sheridan has a over a decade of investment experience at leading private equity and investment banking firms. Prior to joining Digital Alpha, Mr. Sheridan was a Vice President at San Francisco-based private equity firm Golden Gate Capital, where he focused on technology investments across the software, information services, and technology-enabled services ecosystems. Previously, Mr. Sheridan was an Investment Banking Analyst at Greenhill & Company’s New York office, where he focused on M&A and restructuring transactions. Mr. Sheridan is a graduate with honors from New York University’s Stern School of Business, where he majored in finance and economics and studied abroad in London and Hong Kong. He is a CFA Charterholder.
Dakin Sloss
Dakin Sloss is Founder and General Partner of Prime Movers Lab. Over the course of the last decade, he has created billions of dollars of enterprise value including founding two breakthrough start-ups, a dozen personal angel investments, and coaching 10+ Prime Movers. Most recently, he served as the founding CEO of Tachyus, where he built the leading prescriptive analytics company in the oil and gas industry. Before Tachyus, Dakin co-founded OpenGov, where as CEO he recruited the core team, secured millions in angel funding and venture capital, arranged the initial pilot partnerships, and launched the world’s most advanced smart government platform. Before OpenGov, he built California Common Sense, the premiere California open data and government watchdog non-profit. Dakin earned a BS in Mathematics from Stanford University in 2011. In 2016, Dakin was recognized as the featured Forbes 30 Under 30 energy entrepreneur. In 2017, he was named as a San Francisco Business Times 40 Under 40 honoree.
Zia Huque
Zia Huque is a General Partner of Prime Movers Lab where he focuses on growth-stage investing. Zia brings a wealth of experience in later-stage financing, having been in the business of risk investment and risk management across credit, rates, equities, and derivatives asset classes for the majority of his career. Zia also brings operational expertise to Prime Movers Lab, having had executive, strategic and operational responsibilities across multiple businesses and regions of a top-five global investment bank managing tens of billions of dollars and thousands of employees. He serves on the boards of multiple Prime Movers Lab portfolio companies.
Zia served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Bank Securities Inc., the U.S. Broker Dealer of Deutsche Bank, from early 2018 until his departure from Wall Street in 2019. At Deutsche Bank, Zia was also Head of Equities, Fixed Income & Currencies for the Americas from 2016 to 2018 and Global Co-Chief Operating Officer of Corporate Banking and Securities from 2012 until 2016. During Zia’s 30-year finance career on Wall Street, he held multiple executive positions in the United States, Europe and Asia while leading investment banking, sales and trading functions spanning many industries, products, and clients.
Zia received his BA in Economics and Political Science from Williams College. He resides in Wyoming with his wife and two daughters and is active in the local community.

Hubert de Pesquidoux
Currently an executive partner at the private equity firm Siris Capital and Executive Chairman of the Board of Mavenir, Mr. Pesquidoux brings a wealth of experience at global scale across multiple telecommunications segments to Tarana’s board. His prior roles include CFO of Alcatel-Lucent, President and CEO of Alcatel North America, and senior board positions at Tekelec, Radisys, and Sequans.
